Rose's look in detail

I chose to focus on Macdonald’s key features: Bold Shapes, Intricate Prints and Patterns, Layered Textures and Mixed Fabrics with Loud Colours and incorporate them into my own style of make-up.

I supported his use of structure through shape by taking the circular shape of the eyes and creating an oval blast of colour as a wash over one quarter of the model’s face, descending down the brow bone over the eye and graduating along the cheekbone. I used descending glitter to create a ‘print’ effect and to enhance the circular motions over the oval wash.

To reflect Macdonald’s desire to experiment with loud colours, I chose electric blue and subtle gold to add vibrance to my look. I applied a mixed product consistency with the base’s glossy finish and a matt blush to recreate a ‘mixed fabric’ effect and layered texture.

Macdonald’s designs also reflect a classic element with a modern twist.
Taking a 1920’s ‘cupid lip’, I altered the shape by blunting the edges and applying a gloss. I chose a subtle honey colour, purposely toned down to draw attention to the eyes.
